Phil is having his ups-and-downs (mostly downs) and is currently tied for 12th place going into the 3rd round. Will Phil finally overtake Tiger as the World's #1 ranked golfer after a dozen failed attempts? Also, who will win the FedEx Cup? Phil Mickelson is the defending champion. We shall see...

"On other side of the golfing world the veteran golfer Phil Mickelson is giving his full to clutch the world number seat from Tiger Woods. Phil is performing pretty luminously and is on a very strong position after opening at one under par sixty nine. Now Mickelson needs a top two-finish to grab the world number one rank from Tiger Woods. While talking about his performance Phil told the media by saying that the event is very tough, and he is trying his level best to perform well. He added that he is very satisfied with his performance and is feeling confident to grab his desired goals now."

LOL! Phil has had NO distractions, NO layoff...and far as I know, NO injuries of any kind. Sorry, but he has played awful golf since Tiger went way ho chasing, divorse AND injuries. EVERYONE else has played much better than the #2 player in the world. ALL the attention has been on Tiger and very little on him, basically riding under the radar.....and nothing.

He does have one major distraction...he joined the 40+ crowd this year. The World rankings are kind of a joke since both players had less-than-stellar years, yet they finished the year as they started it - ranked #1 and #2. However, I would not be surprised if both were bounced from the their lofty positions next year. We shall see.

Very true. Funny how everyone had made a big issue of Tiger's game going down hill because he is 35, yet NO ONE has made the same issue about Lefty's game since he is now 40.

There are ALOT of up and comers that are very cocky and confident that are not afraid of the big names. The athlete now, the good one, WANTS to play the best early AND often. They study their opponets and when they are on and when they are off. Not like the older athletes that immediately panick once the big name makes a run.

Three reasons: Tiger's personal problems off the course, Tiger's unTigerly play, and the fact Phil started the year winning the Masters and finishing 2nd in another early tounament before the wheels came off.
