I ran across something very interesting. I think this is the future of electronics. I suggested something similar in design to this in regards to satellite receivers in the past to have slots for memory, CPU, hard drive, tuners, etc.

The big disadvantage of course is that a designed phone can maximize the space. Which is why there is a big DIY desktop market but laptops tend to be prebuilt.

Most of the phone interior is battery. The real question for me is can the battery be large enough to give all day run time with medium to heavy usage

Will the cost be too dear as well? TBD.
