Piping HD local channels into Vip622

I am having trouble figuring out how to get the HD locals I know I already get to go through my DISH receiver.

I have an external antenna running into my house pulling in HD local channels. I have the line currently hooked up to my HDTV and all works fine. But for convenience sake I want to pipe the signal into the DISH receiver to cut down on having to switch TV inputs all the time.

The thing is when I plug my coax antenna line into the external antenna input on the back of the 622 and go to scan signals none of the signals are found.

Does anyone have any idea what could cause this problem, at the least I can just abandon the effort and just put up with switching back and forth, but thank you for any information you can give me and I hope to see a welcoming response to this my first post ever on this site.

This should work. Are you sure you got the right F-connector jack on the back of the 622? IF so, I think your OTA tuner is defective.

was there supposed to be a link in the previous message?

Pardon the ignorance but could you elaborate on the F-connector reference? The only coaxial input left open on the system is the one marked for the antenna input, denoted by the stick figure diagram of an antenna.

I must be a little slow on this stuff, I just got the OTA reference to mean Over the air(duh). I would hope that it is something other than the OTA input being broken.

Sorry about the ambiguous reply. I figured that, since I was replying at half-past midnight EDT, and my answer would be right below yours, that the reference would be clear. I only meant that what you are trying to do should work. That's better than trying to do something that would never work! ;)

The F-connector is the recepticle or jack on the back of the receiver that accepts the coaxial cable input (or output). On a VIP622, there are five (5) such jacks, so it's easy to plug into the wrong one if you're not looking. The one you want for the OTA tuner is the one at the far right hand side of your receiver when viewed from the front. (Or the far left when viewed from the back.) Also double-check the setting n0qcu mentioned above.
