Please help me install a new receiver (multiple room changes)

I have been a Dish Network subscriber for several years now. A few months ago, I had my old receivers switched to newer ones through their dishin it up program. I just bought another new receiver (since you can only lease 4 tuners per account) and called Dish to have it installed and they wanted to charge me double the amount that I was quoted. Anyway, I want to just install it myself it at all possible. Can you guys help me out?

My current setup:
VIP722k (leased) - located in room 1, while second tuner goes to room 2
VIP222k (leased) - located in room 3, while second tuner goes to room 4

How I need to have things set up:
VIP722k (leased) - no changes
VIP222k (leased) - located in room 3, while second tuner goes to room 5
VIP222k (owned) - located in room 4, while second tuner goes to room 6

I have access to all the coax cables outside, as well as access to the satellites. I currently have two satellites installed (I think the second is for local channels).

What do I need to do to install the new receiver and get everything working in the proper rooms?

What do you have for dishes and switches mrnu 6-1-1 will probably bring up system info. I suspect you have a Dish Pro Plus Twin with a 61.5 dish so you will need to buy switches in the $100-150 range.

Dish System: 500

Why would I need any switches? I thought I could just plug the 3rd receiver straight into the satellite. Is that not correct?

I have been researching some and I thought that I would just come out of the satellite and connect to a diplexer that went to both TVs in the house. On the inside, I would just need a splitter for the new receiver (it comes with a separator). Is there another part that I would need? Can you give me a part number? If it truly is $100-$150, I'll probably just pay Dish Network to come set it up.

Search on eBay for a DPP44 switch with power supply. You have a DPP Twin which is maxed out with 2 receivers(4tuners). For 3 receivers with a single coax to each receiver you need to stick with Dish Pro Plus (DPP) technology.

What is the difference between the DPP44 and the DP34? I only need to hook up 2 satellites and 3 dual-tuner receivers, and the DP34 looks like it could do that (and it is much cheaper). Thoughts?

If all you have is three dual tuners and 3 satellites then a dp33 switch is fine your just need a dp dual or dp single to feed each individual satellite to the switch.

Why would I need any switches?

Based on your description of what is probably 2 dishes, boba surmised one of them is a Dish 500 with a DPP Twin for 110/119 (for 3 satellites viewed by your 2-dish installation) and the other is pointed to 61.5 or 129 and routed through the DPP Twin. If that guess is wrong, you need to answer what your current switch is (menu-6-1-1-CheckSwitch). The DPP Twin has an internal switch and outputs for only 2 receivers. Any more than that requires adding an external switch.

Only if you have over 22,300 miles of RG6 . Two of the current 3-satellite DISHES, the Dish 1000.2 for 110-119-129 and 1000.4 for 61.5-72.7-77, have an integrated LNB/switch assembly with outputs for 3 receivers. You might be able to put up one of those to replace your 2 dishes instead of buying an extra switch.

I assume you mean DPP33 which, as you imply, can't be used with the DPP Twin.

If I have to buy a switch ($70), splitters, coax, and install a receptacle for power, should I just have Dish Network come and install the new receiver? They told me on the phone that this is considered a new install and would cost $99, which would include everything (switch, etc.).

I am only worried about them getting power to the switch. Can I expect them to install a new receptacle or wire it directly to a junction box in the attic? Or will I have to install that myself? The tech support line would not give me a clear answer. I'm afraid that they will want to do something stupid like run a big extension cord to the exterior outlet by my front door.

I have done a lot of electrical work and could install a receptacle if needed.

What do you think? Should I buy all this stuff and install myself or just have Dish Network come and do it?

Pay DISH $99 and let them do it correctly. Installation is part of their business and they will do it with the correct equipment. $99 is a bargin.
