HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 25, 2004--PreCash(R), Inc., a leading electronic payment company, today announced a partnership with EchoStar Communications Corporation (Nasdaq:DISH) that will enable participating PreCash locations to begin processing DISH Network(R) payments using the Viewer's Instant Payment (VIP) Card from PreCash.

PreCash offers DISH Network customers a new way to pay their satellite bill with cash. The reusable VIP card is electronically linked to the customer's DISH Network account, which allows customers to make payments in any amount up to $1,000. The PreCash process is simple -- customers present their VIP card with any amount of cash and their transaction posts automatically, allowing customers to watch their DISH Network service as soon as they get home. The VIP card itself does not hold any value, which protects the customer's funds on the account, should the card be lost or stolen.

"We are pleased to partner with DISH Network to offer a nationwide payment solution that is easy, convenient and secure for both customers and retailers," said John Chaney, president and CEO of PreCash. "Now DISH Network customers can make payments at over 20,000 participating PreCash locations."

As an added convenience, PreCash offers both interactive voice recording and online store locator services. Customers simply enter their five-digit ZIP Code to locate the closest PreCash location participating in the program. The locations provide easy access for millions of DISH Network customers who use the PreCash card to pay for their monthly satellite service for a small convenience fee.

I thought that Dish was actively avoiding this market segment due to the higher risk of non-payment and ultimately dealer chargebacks. You could almost call this a "pre-paid" satellite service, kind of like a pre-paid wireless phone. They should give away 111s with activation on this plan - just pay as you go for the level of service you can afford.

I agree, I think prepaying for satellite tv service could be a good thing for some people as they just pay in advance for what they want or have a balance in their account, or for higher risk customers.
