Hi!
I'm looking to get one of the premium channels and I was wondering which one of the channels do you guys recommend for movies?

HBO, Cinemax, Starz, Showtime

Thanks!

I'm sorry I don't understand..

I just want to know which premium channel to choose from:
HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, and Starz

When I had all of them, I thought Starz was best for MOVIES, but HBO was the best for their shows and made for movies. I dropped them all but HBO when I signed up with Netflix. Same $ I was paying and I have better picture/sound, plus I can pick the ones I want, instead of 'hoping' it'll be on. Keep HBO for Sopranos & Deadwood and the off and on 'made for' movie.

I'm just looking for movies so should Starz be my choice then? Thanks for the help!

What George is refering to is that different providers offer different channels from HBO, SHO, Cinemax, and Starz. Not everyone carries the same channels.

Exactly, from some providers a Starz subscription will include 12 channels while a Cinemax subscription will only 3. Or if you like a particular genre does you provider offer the appropriate channel in the premium (i.e. HBO Comedy).

I'm guessing you sub to Dish so I would suggest that you go with Starz if you are wanting movies. They usually have the newest releases. If you wanted original programming and/or boxing I would go with HBO and/or Showtime. They offer some great shows like Rome, Sleeper Cell, Weeds, Deadwood, Sopranos, Inside the NFL, and many others. I don't think I could live without HBO and Showtime.

I get all four and I like Starz best for movies with HBO second.

And while I've watched multiple episodes of Rome, the Sopranos, Weeds, Deadwood, and others, none have held my interest over time. If some of these appeal to you, then HBO is a good choice for its combination of new programming and movies.

If you have an HDTV (and from your other posts it sounds like you do), I would definitly go with premium packs that include HD channels. On Dish this narrows it down to HBO and Showtime. Out of these two for me, HBO wins hands down! I would go with HBO!

Or just get them all for a month and then decide which one to keep! ;)

HBO is the only one I subscribe to. There's NOTHING on Showtime I'd watch. I'd imagine if you're a big movie person Starz would be nice, but with all the Encore stations in the 180 package, they show the Starz movies shortly after Starz gets them.

The Masters of Horror series is great on SHOHD ch.9460. Showtime has some of the best original series programming of all of them.

Cinemax has never really interested me. I wouldn't recomend it to anyone as their first pic unless they were into soft porn. Hence, "Skinamax".

I think Starz for Movies and HBO for shows with some decent movies. Cinemax for softcore lol. Showtime doesn't seem to have much of anything. I had HBO for a while when I had cable and watched it a lot at first after the first few months I got to where I didn't watch it much at all. When I switched to Satellite I didn't keep HBO.
