Problem with 522 and dvd recorder

I am trying to record from my dvr and can't get it to work. I have tried RCA's from the dvr out to the dvd recorder in, and I get nothing. Same with S video. The only success I've had is with component video cables directly from the TV to my dvd recorder, but even with the red and white RCA audio cables, I get no sound. Any suggestions? I have a PYE dvd recorder and a JVC AV-32320 TV. (And I have used the recorder on another tv with a camcorder, and the audio wasn't an issue.)
