Hi my zip is 44420 what would be my southrn most satellite??? I purchased a VIEWSAT2000 I have it mounted on a rigid pipe above my garage. It is solid. The dish is a Ku band 36" Fortech dish with a universal LNB and an HH90 motor. When I set it south I saw good signal (blue in color) on 6 satellites. I have no clue what bird I am pionting at because I cannot get any channels. I also notice that if i am on a satellite and i rotate the dish east to west or west to east I still have good signal. Shouldnt the signal drop off after moving the dish a few mm??I followed the mfg specs for mounting the dish so I am running out of ideas. Thank You Iceberg for some ideas earlier today.

problems in Ohio Viewsat2000
I was wondering why my signal bar stays blue with continuous signal (80-90%). This stays like this as i sweep from east to west. Shouldnt the signal disappear then reappear as I move from one satellite to the other?? Do I need to update the software on the reciever?? If I do how do I know what versoin of software is on the reciever? Where will I get the needed update? I thought the reciever was ready to be used without upgrades.

Signal strength means NOTHING at all, the dish could be indoors and you will still get signal strength. You are watching for signal QUALITY only. You have to enter the Freq. Polarity and SR, of a LIVE channel/TP. Then point the dish watching signal quality all the time. If you think you are close to a satellite try a blind scan.

Well I got tired of climbing the ladder all the time so what I did was build a test stand to mount the dish on in the garage to practice getting signal. I have a good uninterrupted view of the WSW sky. I should be able to pick up something and see how the tuning works. GUESS WHAT. When I had everything hooked up I got good signal (blue bar) on 7 satellited. WITH THE GARAGE DOOR CLOSED. So what is wrong here?? I bypassed the motor and same thing happened. Now when I didnt have the LNB hooked up of course nothing happened. What do you guys think is wrong?????????? Could it be the LNB or tuner?? Is there a way to simply test LNB?? it is common to think that signal is what you;re are looking for when someone starts with this fta stuff and it is common that you think something is broken
I felt that myself fta is not like a dbs system where someone aims a dish and signal goes up and things work.. No Big No .....Fisrt you must tune the reciver to an active transpoder and then try to get a signal from the satellite that you;re reciver is tuned to.... that is the best way to go, and when you start grasping the notion how things work proceed with a motor installation I recommened you install you;re dish with out the motor fisrt and bag a few satellites after that you will uderstand better how to get the motor running and what understanding you will acuired doing this will make things easier to do .... And you;re looking for quality not signal.. signal means that you;re lnb is working .... But quality means you;re reciver is tuned to an active transponder on the right satellite .....

Can I assume that if my motor is an HH, it will turn 180 degrees, and also that it will sweep the western sky? I ask this because I want to install a mounting pole today and I want to be sure I will have a clear path for a 36" dish as it turns one full sweep. Am I confused? Someone already told me that a 1.5" pipe is common for mounting a dish, so now I just have to know where to put it. Thanks for the help. Joe

If you then move west to G10 R (one of the western most birds) from Echostar 3 it would be about a 100 compass degree move.
So you need to have a clear view facing (at least) 149 to 249 depending on what satellites you want to see. Check Lyngsat to see what interests you.

So from what you say about being able to face my dish from 149 to 249 degrees, that appears to be 90 degrees of movement. Isn't there any other birds to get in the other 90 degrees I can move with the motor?

You really shouldn't have to set limits unless you have a specific reason to do so. I think most motors/receivers have some built in.
For most people Hispasat (orbital position 30 W) is probably the farthest east they can see and Echostar at 148 W the farthest west. That's about the extent of "The Arc" in this part of the world anyway.
