Pursuit moving to streaming

Just got the message on my guide that The Pursuit Channel 393 is moving to a streaming platform so your hopper will now have to be connected to the Internet. Dish website is saying that it's to deliver it in HD and it got me thinking is this Dish's way of solving the issue of SD only channels and doesn't that defeat the purpose of having satellite or cable?
