Hi, I'm new to this site, and have to say upfront my knowledge of satellite television is very poor. I hope to have satellite tv in the near future, but I had a question pertaining to the obsolete Dish PVR 721. Just saw one of these units at a garage sale, I realize the smart card is useless now.
This may be a stupid question, but is there any way I can use the PVR 721 as a stand alone recorder? Can I plug it into my existing line from the local cable provider which I have been paying for? If so, would the PVR 721 remote be required to proceed, or can it be programed to record from the outside controls of the unit itself? Thanks.
