Question about old equipment

My 301 Has a setting on the timers mode to "start any external echostar recording devices. What the heck is that? Also I had a HTS dish box, and it had a big port on one side of the main board that was a bunch of pins, what that for, also i had a old dish box and it had a metal cover on the back of it for a small port, not a jtag, what;s that for, lastly I saw a REALLY OLD
ad for dish network and it had a dish the size of a primestar dish said ECHOSTAR on it and the receiver was odd looking, it wasnt for cband cuase it said "Dish to Start in December '96" Was this a porottype?

Ok the metal cover was on the 5000 and it says high speed data port, what the heck?

Tim thats really old equipment from dishnetwork. They are worth more in paperweights than anything else.

I changed the thread title to something more descriptive.

PLEASE always put in a descriptive title to a thread. "?????" Doesn't tell anyone anything, and it is much easier for folks to decide what to read when they see the thread title.
