I'm a first time Dish Network customer and my 18 month contract is expiring this month. Does Dish have any type of retentions department like Directv had? Is there any way to to get a better deal with another contract or am I just stuck with what I have? Looking at my bill I'll lose my $5.99/month credit for DHPP. Will I be forced to have a new contract or can I go month-to-month. I'm pretty happy with Dish but could go back to Directv. I have a VIP622 and a DVR625. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

When your contract is up you will automatically go month to month. We went out of contract about a year and a half ago. We kept Dish because we also subscribed to Sky Angel. After it was announced that Sky Angel was discontinuing service, we looked into going with Direct TV. I contacted customer service a couple times to see if they were willing to give me any retention deals. They gave me none. Since I didn't want to commit to another 18 month contract with Direct, I decided to give it one last try and contacted the executive office (ceo@xxx.com, replace the xxx with echostar). They offered me $10 off a month for a year with no commitment and free locals so I bit.

I also dropped the DHPP, saving me $5.99/month. It has been written in other places on this board that if you need the warranty, you can sign up for it on line when you need it then call customer service the next day to get warranty service.

Does Dish have any type of retentions department like Directv had? Yes, Dish does have a Retention Department.

Is there any way to to get a better deal with another contract or am I just stuck with what I have? You could threaten to quit, but they may just let you go rather than offering anything. Has been done to some in the past.

If you then have an issue, simply call Dish up, add DHPP back to the account, hang up from the CSR, then call back a short time later (possibly the next day) and report the problem. This will save you the $5.99/month. Other than that, if you are happy with Dish, you do not have to do anything. Once the commitment is over (either 18 month if you had one before Feb. 1 or 24 months now), then you will simply stay a subscriber with NO Commitment to stay with Dish. Meaning, if you are happy, you pay your bill and get service. Dish does something you don't like tomorrow or any time in the future, you can call up and cancel on the spot. You are not stuck keeping Dish. You are Month to Month.

I was thinking about going to Comcast and I called and asked for a customer retentions specialist. They offered me $10 off for 10 months, 3 months free HBO & Cinemax, and upgrade my 811 rcvr to a 622 DVR with free install of new Dish 1000 that I needed for the new HD channels I would get. When the tech got here, he had a 722 dvr instead. WOOHOO! He said they were out of the 622 model. I was hoping that would happen. I had read on here that there was a short supply of the 622's.
I went with the essentials hd package, however I am getting the ultimate package. They did mess up my programming package at first, but after a phone call we got it straightened out. I am not sure why I am still getting the better hd package. So, I will save about 8 dollars for 10 months They also signed me up for dvr advantage. Of course I did have to do a TWO year contract for the new rcvr and dvr advantage. So it does pay to ask.

I just sent one to ceo@xxx - my lousy bill is 83.53 now. This includes LEASED RECEIVER FEE, A200 w/LOCALS, DISH HD ULTIMATE, DVR SERVICE FEE, and tax. I think that is getting a little out of hand. Meanwhile sit and watch DirecTV add the HD, and proved MLB EI, and HD locals.... I love E* equipment but, this is getting old....

here is the lousy response from E*

Thank you for your recent e-mail.

I understand your concern about the price change. While we work hard to keep our costs low to serve you as a customer, we cannot offset all of the unavoidable growing costs of increased television programming fees. Please know that DISH Network is not alone in changing their prices for 2008. All other companies are increasing their programming prices.

What we can do for you is sign you up for our DishDVR Advantage promotion. DishDVR Advantage combines your Americas Top 200, locals and one DVR fee for the low monthly price of $49.99 which is a savings of $3.98 a month. To be eligible for this promotion you must agree to stay with us for 24 months or sign up for AutoPay with Paperless Billing.

I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience you have experienced. If you have any additional questions, feel free to contact me.
