Can you use a direct tv dish for dish network?

and..........does it matter what model of reciever you have?

Welcome to SatelliteGuys... and yes you can, as long as it is the 18" dish... the lnb is what is called a legecy as opposed to the newer dishpro lnb's that are not compatable and will not fit the D* dish. Note you will only be able to get 1 Satellite with the D* (direct)dish. Better to find a Dish 500 to get the 110/119 combo.

ok i think i'll buy the 552 receiver so i need an 18" Dish?

No... you will need the 20" Dish 500 to get the 2 Sats 119/110. The dealer should install this as part of the deal. (or E* will have them do it)

buy a dish 500 and a DP Twin , shouldn't cost a whole lot and pretty easy to align
