The "FAV" button on my remote only calls up a message box "New program
information is loading from satellite. This may take several minutes",
and it just hangs there. This is after I have set only the local OTA
channels in the "favorite list". In any case, even if the favorite
list works, it is still not what I had in mind. I wanted to be able to
scroll through the channels using the channel up and down buttons, and
not by calling up a "favorite list" which blocks the bulk of the
screen, or by pressing multiple keys to watch the next channel.

I guess I will just have to get used to pressing "2" to go to the
beginning of the channel list after I have scrolled up to channel 69,
or vise versa. This appears to be the only way to not see the
satellite channel numbers when scrolling through channels one by one.

In the SurfBar (which you bring by pressing Up or Info button once), you can use one of the color buttons to go through the Favorite channels only.

That doesn't seem to work. I can bring up the surf bar and go through the favorite channels, but the receiver does NOT tune to those channels...

Just press "OK" and it will... ;)
I know, you would prefer to have Ch Up/Down limited to Favorites, but this box cannot do that. The SurfBar navigation through the Favorites is your best alternative.
