[VOOM] 4 new channels added today

so far:
Lifetime, Lifetime Movies, CMT, and National Geographic.

Sure looks like a positive sign to me.....

New Channels

I know those of you who have said not to speculate are correct, HOWEVER........why would you be adding channels if you are going to shut down? I will chalk this up as positive news for sure!

:D

RE: [VOOM] 4 new channels added today

Give me a Voom DVR and I'd be willing to climb Mount Everest to tell the
world Voom Lives :)

look again fellow voomers, lifetime movie channel is on 289, lifetime is on 524, lifetime real women is on 525, national geographic channel is on 618, and cmt is on channel 813, good going voom keep up the good work, bye bye cable now!!! :)

RE: [VOOM] 4 new channels added today

I think the DVR thing needs a cautious approach. As much as I would like to
see this happen soon, a really buggy unit just causes headaches all around.
Don't need the PR hit at this critical point. And if the rumors of firmware
download issues are true, they won't be rolling it out real soon anyway ;-)

Some news clips have suggested that Cablevision is considering the Motorola
platform for their cable customers. Perhaps the focus on development has
been the cable version with the Voom situation being so unstable for the
last few months. Especially since the decisions to shut Voom were coming
from the top, it's possible the DBS version of the DVR got put to the back
burner. If Voom makes it through this life support period, then they could
consider picking up the development again. Purely speculating here though.

[VOOM] Re: 4 new channels added today

How can anyone be satisfied with this horrible slap in the
face???!!!??? 4 new SD channels???? A company that prides themselves
on HD??!!?? But not only 1 nasty sd lifetime channel we get.....but
TWO! I can understand 1.....for those poor souls with wives that
swing both ways...but NOT ONE HD CHANNEL!!!.....2 disgusting nasty
channels....one redneck hillbilly singing channel and a wanna be
equator channel. Just ONE HD channel woulda not made me complain.
JUST ONE! but no!!!!! Also alot of people look at this as a good
sign. but beware of the creature ready to jump on your back while you
are all stary eyed.

Until the content within the market expands, the options for added HD
channels is limited. HDNET and the Outdoor channel are about all that's
missing from the available Voom lineup, as I recall. Beyond that you have to
go out and create your own new content channel to have any additional ones
available. I don't see that happening until the situation with Voom
improves.

Bob,
TOC HD is only in test phase until July 2005. HDNET is unlikely for
political reasons and I don't know about INHD and whether the other guys are
blocking VOOM access to this. From what I can tell it' not a big deal if
VOOM stays around. ESPN2 HD is the one I want now for the March Madness.
There are no announcements from VOOM either. New channels just appear it
seems....

I think InHD suffers an even bigger policital issue than HDNET since it's
owned by the cable cos. Mark Cuban marches to a different drummer and I'm
not really versed on his views of DBS.

If I were a billionaire, I would care much if folks thought I was out of my
mind. Plenty of folks think Dolan Sr. is out of his mind right now. I don't
think he listens to them much either.

I think most of you have heard that the Dolans have
called a cease fire and will allow voom to go on for
the rest of this month. This to give charley the time
to get his financing in place to take voom from
cablevision. They are allowing current subs to get 2
months of va va voom for free if they stay with Voom.
That is the latest and there will be another board
meeting next month to see if its there or not

But.....

Bob Mankin,

Your post is sensible for sure....but VOOM is supposed to be "cutting edge" and everyone else has had DVR's for years and Cable had had HD-DVR for over a year....so a VOOM-DVR is necessary ASAP in my opinion... ;)

[VOOM] Re: 4 new channels added today

But Dolan Sr. was and is a pioneer.
He was running around wiring bulidings in NYC before anyone ever
heard of Cable TV he started HBO etc.
Cuban just seems like the kid who always takes his ball and goes
home.. To me Cuban just seems like a spiteful arrogant @$$.
He acts like his HDNETS are the second coming... At this point in my
life I can do without Hogans Heros in HD.

I couldn't agree more. Cuban is so full of himself it's not funny. Notice
his reality tv show bombed. He is exactly what you said, an arrogant ass
with the maturity level of a 13 yo boy.

RE: [VOOM] 4 new channels added today

Comcast HD DVR has only been available to the SF Bay Area for barely 3
months. I called to order the day it was released.

You're also comparing straight HD DVR to a new NETWORKED device, something
no one else has in the field, to my knowledge. That's quite a bit of
engineering uncertainty and obstacles to overcome yet. If you want a simple
DVR it could probably be ported fairly quick. If you want that "cutting
edge" hardware, it will take longer. Particularly with the speed Motorola
works, IMO and IME.
