we removed our directv 18" round dish with dual lnb to put new roof and siding on house. have little knowledge of communications tech but don't wnat to pay for professional reinstall. we are only putting in one dvr reciever, and will not get HD programming. its ok if we can only watch one while recording one channel so i think we won't need two lines. do we need to run the coaxial cable from both the lnb connections or will just one line sufice? also since the unit was unplugged for so long ( we continued to pay for service during remodle just didn't have it hooked up all spring & summer) will we have to call to have the reciever reactivated?

Since, you are reinstalling this dish, why not run two lines while you're at it?
But, if you are content with just one tuner you can use one line.
You may have to call to re-authorize the receiver. This can be done online.

If your running only ONE line you'll be able to record, but will have to watch that same channel when it's recording, sounded like you thought otherwise in your post.

yea, thought the dtv installer told us, you can watch one & record one, but wouldn't be able to rec 2 while watching one like we can on our other system that has 2 cables running to it. so what your saying is if we want to watch one while recording one we need to run cables from both lnb's and connect both to back of dvr sat 1 in and sat 2 in? tnx

yes. think of the two tuners or cable connections like 2 separate tvs. if only one tv has a cable plugged into it, then you will only be able to watch tv on one tv. so, in order to be able to watch one tprogram and record another or record 2 programs, you will need both cables connected.
