Hi Everyone.

In May of 2009 Dish Network upgraded my satellite box to add HD w/DVR. I bought and installed a new tv this past Sunday. All I did was remove the analog rca jacks and hooked up the hdmi cord to both thebox and the receiver. The Dish remote operates the new television itself, but will not operate the satellite box anymore. The remote has new batteries and worked perfectly 20 minutes earlier. I have tried the customer support number, holding the SAT button and hitting record, holding the SAT button and hitting 1, #, record, hard and soft shocking the unit, lifting the unit up and aiming the remote underneath the sattelite box. The remote is just not operating the satellite box at all. I have to open the box to manually change the channels and cannot access dvr at all. This is all on TV 1. TV 2 and it's remote work perfectly. What is going on? Is there a code I can re-enter into the remote for the SAT option to work again? Why would it just stop working like that? I really want to avoid a service call because I don't want to take the time off work. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks.
B.

Push the System Info button on the front of he box at your tv 1 and aim the remote at it and push the record button on the dish remote. If the number in the green tv1 box changes then you fixed it. If it doesn't change then most likely your new tv is causing interference. In that case you will have to turn of you tv and change the address to a different one that hopefully doesn't get interfered with.

Thanks hawker 152! I'll try that tonight.
I have seen this multiple times, i the tv is off can you turn the box on and off with the remote? If so then i is definitely the tv causing interference with the IR, best way to solve this is get another "2" remote, flip the chip at the bottom so it says "1", and then address it.

Addressing remote:

Access system info screen by pressing menu menu on front panel,

On remote press and hold SAT mode button till all lights flash,

The SAT button should continue to flash,

Pick a number between 1-15 ( perferably not the same as tv 2)

Press # , sat button should flash 3 times,

Then press record.

The box next to the tv 1 should change to the number you chose. Then control the box with the remote.

Hope this helps.

Plasma TVs will definitely interfere with IR.

LCDs with backlight controls, definitely. Many, many reports of it. I have had no problem with either of my two plasmas.
The OP's report that it worked OK for twenty minutes makes me suspect that in that time, he may have fiddled with the backlight controls. Best to turn them off, as well as auto-contrast controls.

I have an inwall IR repeater from Niles Audio. When I got my plasma it screwed my repeater so that nothing would work. I had to get a newer model with a plasma filter and then it worked fine. It even interfered when the plasma was turned off.
