We have had Dish just over a year. We had/have the standard 100 hour DVR box but last week it up and died. Called DISH and they sent out a new replacement DVR box and we're due to install it ourselves which is fine. Our bedroom tv runs off of the DVR box in the living that is to be replaced. What we're curious to know is how simple is the installation and we're more concerned about hooking back up the tv in the bedroom since it runs off of the DVR box. is there anything we need to know or do?

I know we need to call DISH once we install it to activate it etc but we just don't want it to turn into a charlie foxtrot if you know what i mean ;)

Any help, thoughts or input would be appreciated.

thanks

Depending on what channel the tech who originally installed it set the TV2 (that's your bedroom TV) to use, you may or may not have to do anything. The default setting in receivers is generally UHF CH 60, however on some re-manufactured Boxes it can default to weird numbers due to old data being left in the memory.

Best solution to make sure you get the hardware set up correctly is set the new box on top of the old one and move the wires one at a time to the new receiver (make sure you also move the TV2 remote antenna). After you get it all set up and activated on TV1, go turn on TV2.

If you have picture, great! leave it as is, all is well. If you don't have a picture, check what channel your TV2 is set on. Go into the Modulator setup on TV1 (Menu-6-1-5). If the channel number on TV2 is between 21 - 69 check mark the "Air" box and set the correct channel number. If your TV2 is on channels 73 - 125 check mark the "Cable" box and set the correct channel number. Then select "Done". You should now have a picture on TV2.

Next is getting the TV2 remote setup properly with the new receiver. Get your TV2 remote and try to change channels, if nothing happens, go back to TV1 bringing the TV2 remote with you. On the TV1 remote press the "Menu" button twice. This should bring you to the System Info screen. Then pick up your TV2 remote and press the "Record" button (You should see one of the numbers at the bottom of the screen change from 1 to some other number between 1 and 32). Take the TV2 remote back into your bedroom and see if you can change channels. If you can, all is well. Exit the System info screen on TV1 (by pressing cancel on the TV1 remote) and you are good to go.

If it is not working at this point, you can either call Customer service, or re-post here with what steps you had trouble with, and someone will hopefully try to help.

Good Luck!
