Retrieving data from DVR hard drive

My Dish TV 625 DVR unit is displaying an Error 024 message and efforts at resetting it have failed. According to the Dish technical support people, this means the 90-plus hours of programming that was recorded on the unit is lost forever (and there is no way to record or pause programming). My question: Is there any way to download the info onto an external drive, or any other way of retrieving the recorded programming when I am unable to bring up any menus showing the show titles?
