Okay this AM remote worked just peachy. Took a nap, got up and remote 2 no longer does anything with the Sat box. At first I thought bad batteries but it works all my other stuff, Amp DVD and TV, just fine just not the Sat. Went thru the manual and followed the steps to make sure everything was set correctly, box set to 6 and when I do the Sat button and then ## on the remote it blinks 6 times. Anyway I called and Dish tech seems to think the RF remote might of just gone bad since the other remote works the Box just fine. Are dieing remotes common or am I just lucky hehe

It happens, but not very often. Most times they start to lose function of a few buttons here and there before they crap out all together. Sounds more almost like the remote address needs reset. I know the remote told you it was ok, but I would still try to reset it to another number. Can't hurt. Then there's the obvious, make sure your UHF antenna is pointing as straight up and down as possible. You might try changing the batteries. Those remotes do have a limited range, so the remote may have reached the point on battery power that it can't tramsit as far as it needs to. If that's the case there's a way around that. But try that stuff and see if it helps.

This might be irrelevant since you mentioned an AM remote, but, I had a similar problem with a UHF Pro 6.3 remote late last week. Called tech support, they're sending me a new remote (managed to get them to send it for free too). After that call, I did some reading on this forum, and discovered how to change the UHF band. I removed the battery compartment cover, found the switch in the top position (UHF Band A) and switched it to the bottom (UHF Band B), brought up the system info screen on TV1 and hit the record button on the UHF Pro remote several times; the receiver (a VIP 622) picked up on the change and voila, no problems since (so far anyway). The odd thing is that before doing this, I would have to reboot the receiver every 15 minutes for the UHF Pro remote to continue working (e.g., after 15 minutes, it would stop controlling the receiver). Interestingly enough, I took that remote and readdressed it to my 522 receiver and it worked instantly and flawlessly. Given this behavior, I still suspect there is a problem with the 622 receiver. By the way, anyone have any clue why changing the UHF band on the remote would "correct" my problem?

Thx for the info, already tried new batteries, also I even stood right next to the Sat box and held the remote less than 3" from the RF Attenae but nada response. Also tried a reboot but no luck. Everyones watching stuff right now so cant experiment with changing the rf # till early AM. Kind of figured wasnt the batteries tho since remote controls everything else just fine.

Edit: By AM I was refeering to time of day, as in this morning it worked fine, took a nap & now remote doesnt work the Sat at all

Probably some obscure software issue. Maybe since you have a 522 in the system also there was some kind of cross communication going on? Dunno...just a theory. I once had a case where a customer's IR remote wouldn't work when their flourescent overhead lights were on. Apparently something in the spectrum of light they used created IR "noise" and the receiver couldn't pick out the signal from the remote over the lights. The customer changed brands of light bulbs and voila....it works. Weird huh? :) OOoooo...that reminds me of a topic for the installer zone.

I had the same problems too. Tried the same corrective actions (e.g., new batteries, readdressed the remote, all to no avail). I swapped out UHF antennae's from my 622 and 522, no results. Did the point the UHF remote directly at the coax pole for the UHF antennae and that didn't work either. For some reason, changing the UHF band solved my problem.

Anyone know the frequencies of UHF Band A and B?

Light and heat sources can impact the performance of IR signals, sometimes quite significantly. So, I'm not surprised that changing to a different manufacturer light bulb corrected the problem.

No new bulbs or other electrics added to the house. I'm gonna cross fingers its just defective but still odd. Darn thing has worked a champ since day 1 and nothing happened today to make it suddenly stop working, that I know of anyway.

I did ask the tech I spoke with about if a new SW coming to fix the FF/Rew issues but he said not at this time <shakes head>

I'm having similar problems with my TV2 UHF remote. The remote turns the TV on and off and controls the sound. But it will not "operate" with my 622. Won't change channels, bring up the guide, nothing. Worked about a week ago (don't use this particular TV too often).

I check the remote address and it is correct. Changed the batteries.....nothing. Fiddled with the UHF antenna.....nothing. Added a coax cable to extend the antenna outside my entertainment center......again nothing.

I've tried changing the remote 2 address. The remote itself recognizes the change (SAT button flashed number of times equal to the new number input), but the SYSTEM INFO on-screen"will not reflect the change. So I changed the remote 2 address back to the default 12 it was originally set at. Still won't work.

When I turn the TV on, I get a satellite picture (last channel it was on before the remote quit working). Just cannot change the channels.

Okay a cpl things the Tech had me do but no idea if any one thing fixed it.

1) use your R1 to bring up system menu instead of the boxes sysinfo button. Think it was 6-1-1 to get to the screen that shows some Bars and both remotes. Make sure that reflects the number your remote is set to. You also need to have R1 handy so when done with setting an address so you can select "done" when finished

2) The other thing she had me do was pull and reinsert the little tab at the bottom of the remote. First she had me flip it over, supposedly to turn it into a RF. You need to remove the battery cover and then it slides out from the bottom of the remote. When the box didnt respond at all she had me flip it back so the "2 UHF" was showing. I did that and then went into sysinfo and set remote2 to 6 and suprise suprise things started working on both R2 I now have. She said it was called a "Tab Reset" or something

3) on my remote it took several times of hitting the record button on remote2 before sysinfo would change.

I have no idea if it was any of the things mentioned above that fixed things but at least everythings working now. I actually wonder if it might be a SW issue as well since setting the new remote to the same as the old one and going thru the routine, like I said, the origonal R2 also began working
Hope it helps ya but your milage may vary hehe
