Rusty Dish!

The other day I was looking at my dish (a 1000+) and noticed it's starting to get covered in rust on the front. Eventually this will make the thing look like total crap, but besides that will it end up having any effect on my quality of service? I've never had a dish get rusty before.

It was installed less than a year ago, and it wasn't in pristine condition at the time of install (although it wasn't rusty). I don't know if it was new at the time of install or not. The installer just had it thrown in the back of his beat-up old pickup truck (not in a box or anything), and I don't know if it had been previously used or if it just got a little beat around from sliding around in the back of his truck. It was not the initial install of my service, but was an "upgrade" of just the dish so I could get my locals in HD.

Rust won't matter, as to performace.

You might want to spray some rust converter on it and paint it. Cold galvanizing zinc rich spray paint is a good option, since it is gray and more resistant to rust than any other paint.

The equipment is being made cheaper and cheaper, these days, mainly in China.

The old US made Channel Masters and Winegards had e-coat and other rust resting treatment. I've seen 10 years old dishes with very little rust on them.

From the title of the thread, I thought you were asking about someone I might have gone to High School with. Rusty Dish was on the debate team I believe. Or was he a porn star. I don't remember.
