As reported by techliving.com, Samsung has now confirmed last week's rumors that they are pushing the release of their BD-P1000 Blu-ray player about four weeks.

The company says that the delay is "in order to complete compatibility testing with several Blu-ray test discs that will become available in late April from product manufacturers and content providers." I don't know about you, but all of this waiting is making me very nervous about investing hundreds of dollars (maybe even a thousand) in one of these things.

As an added bonus for your patience, Samsung is adding a native 1080p output via HDMI for titles digitally mastered in 1920 x 1080 resolution and up to 1080p upconversion of conventional DVDs through the HDMI interface. They're also upgrading the 9-in-2 memory card interface to 11-in-2, adding Mini-SD and Memory Stock Pro Duo support.

Samsung's new release date will still put them in the forefront, as the first manufacturer to bring a Blu-ray player to market. The unit was originally supposed to be released on May 23; the new release date is June 25. -- Rachel Cericola
