Ugh...I hope they put the HD Lincoln/Omaha stations on the WA birds, also. I just got installed WA a couple weeks ago because we weren't supposed to be EA... :( Is there a charge to be "repointed" if we're supposed to be EA? I already have only VIP receivers, but I do have a 1000.2 dish...

I think given that all the current subs in your area are pointed at the WA satellites, it is reasonable to believe your HD locals will be available in the future on 129 as well. I can't see E* wanting to add wing dishes to all the existing sub's installations. That'd be quite the expense and sort of defeats the purpose of single dish designs like the 1000.2 and 1000.4. But who knows for sure, with E* anything's possible.

Yeah...I'd just rather be "repointed" since I have everything I'd need to be EA....but I don't know if the 1000.2 and the 1000.4 are essentially the same or if I'd have to have a dish swap (in which case they'd probably just put up a wing dish to 61.5)?

1000.2 and 1000.4 are not interchangeable so a simple repoint isn't in order, I don't think. Current subs are not eligible for EA right now anyway. Only new subs in designated EA cities are eligible currently.

Ahh...that's what I figured. Oh, well...*crosses fingers for HD on 129*. :)

Dish is going to be launching several satellites a year for years in order to provide all the HD local channels.

No way will any market be on both WA and EA for the long term.

But, that is just logic, no one knows what they will actually do.

I would agree with that. Logically it would seem to be a waste of resources. On the other hand, how much money is E* willing to spend to reinstall existing subscribers if they limit the locals to one satellite? Since most existing subs are already pointed at the WA, it would seem reasonable for E* to place most of the locals there. That would minimize the amount of reinstalls that might be required compared to the situation where lots of HD locals ended up on EA. But who knows. At the rate E* is moving, I may be a D* subscriber by the time they get around to my DMA, assuming they ever do.

I could see Dish Network freeing up space on 110/119/129 to swap some of the smaller markets (particularly those that have a harder line of site like WV) to EA so that they can keep the larger markets at WA (110/119/129) to prevent a lot more swapouts. Another alternative could be to just let the small markets remain at WA and all new subs goes to EA MPEG-4 regardless of whether they are SD or HD and all SD locals that are in HD/MPEG-4 gets shut off and all those customers gets swapped with an EA dish and the additional space allows for HD MPEG-4 for the rest at 110/119/129.
