I just got the 6412 and I'm wondering if this is normal:

I've got a 4:3 HD Ready TV. When I'm watching an HD channel that's broadcasting a SD signal (locals mostly) I get a smaller picture inside the full screen. Is this normal? I tried different settings for the 4:3 pass-through but nothing seemed to work. Is there any way to stretch this out to full screen?

what cable are you using. if you are only using the hd input, what you describe is normal. i ran a s video cable for sd when i had a 4/3 tv. you should be able to strech the picture if you only want to use the hd connection. i recommend switching back and forth between sd and hd programming.
