Is an SD test pattern the same as a HD test pattern? I recorded some basic test patterns on my visionsat and played them on a lap top on my uncle's plasma tv. The test patterns that were round on my old tv looked oval on his new one?

I don't have a HD Ird, but is it that my sd type will not work for adjusting his screen? And if so can anyone tell me if an HD test patters is different and can post a picture of an HD test pattern for me to try.

There...

Your uncle's HDTV is apparently set to stretch 4:3 signals (SD from your Visionsat) to fill his 16:9 screen, that's why they appear oval on his set and round on your set. You will notice that anything will appear stretched (faces, logos, etc.)... There should be a menu option on his HDTV that controls how his set deals with 4:3 video (stretch or pillarbox).
