Signal to 129 in Los Angeles/Orange County

I am wondering how strong a signal others in the LA/OC area get from the 129 sat and how do the HD locals look. Was watching some basketball this past weekend and saw lots of blocks, especially when any graphics or lots of motion were present. Looked at the signal strength and it was down around 50. Gets up to 64 at most. Do I need to get someone out to adjust my dish, or is this similar to any others experience?

Welcome to Satelliteguys.us!

Do a search on 129 and Los Angeles? or West Coast for that matter and you'll see that mostly everyone is having low readings from 129. If it's a recent install call Dish Network and tell them about your problem, they may send someone to peak your dish but 64 is in the range of what we're getting in the West Coast. Do you have the D1000 or a single dish D500 or D300 for 129?

I'm in Glendale. I'm using a dedicated D500 for 129 and get signal strengths ranging from 67 to 83. Don't have a MPEG4 receiver yet, so can't tell about the new OTA offerings, but the VOOM channels that I get are coming in solid. When you talk about signal strengths you need to mention your antenna configuration. I repointed my 148 dish to 129 myself and can't believe that it is as good as it can be. Had to climb up and down the ladder to see what was going on each time I nudged the dish.

Is that with the Y or I adapter? I get mid 70s to 80s with the I adapter and a D500. I was getting 60s and 70s with the Y adapter.

I have a 1000. DId make a call to dish network last night. The csr told me that if it did not get better to call em back so someone could come out. I guess i feel a little bit better concerning the signal as it seems most everyone getting the same signals. Does anyone else who is receiving the locals in HD notice the pic quality problems?

To be honest your really need a seperate dish for 129.

I bought a D500 just for 129.

This instantly added an average of 10-20 points on the signal strength

50-70 is normal on a D1000 with 110/119/129, and this is the PEAKED signal strength. I would get all kinds of pixelation and an occasional drop.

See if you can get them to come out and install another dish

I have a 1000 and two 211's.. Signal strength on 129 is primarily between 60 & 70, but a few TP's are in the 80's. I get frequent pix-elation. My picture quality has suffered since the switch to 129.

Had a Dish 1000 installed last tuesday. Getting about a 50-60 on the 129 sat. Called dish and they are sending someone out to peak my dish this weekend. But it looks like all I can hope for is about a 10 point improvement. Signal quality seems pretty good but I haven't had that long to watch for drop outs. And we don't get that much weather up here in the high desert.

I have an old 500 and a 300 I can use for 129. Which would be better? I think the single LNB mount from the 300 will bolt right to the 500 but I wasn't sure if it would put the LNB at the focal point. I know the 500 is bigger but it was designed for dual LNB's. On the other hand, the 300 is actually designed for a single LNB. It seems like its shape would be designed to optimize the signal for a single LNB. So much for theory, how about experience? Anyone tried both?

What signal strength change do you see for 110 and 119? Do you lose signal strength on them also, or just the 129? I have two 500's up now - one picks up 110 & 119, and the second gets 148. All are over 100 signal strength.

If I have the 1000 installed to replace the 110 & 119 dish 500, will I lose signal strength - and if so how much will I lose? I really think that the 129 problem is a temporary one, so having the dish 1000 inplace would be a better solution because once the 129 signal strength problem is fixed I could just move the LNB from the 500 to the 1000. Does this sound workable, or am I missing something?
My install date is March 29th and it would be nice to have it working well the first time.

Is the 1000 and 500 combo the better way to go, or should I leave it at two 500's with upgraded LNB's.

For comparison purposes, here are the signal strengths I'm getting from 129 using a Dish 300 in San Francisco:

TP signal
--- --------
01 73
02 77
03 74
04 72
05 71
06 87
07 77
08 65
09 78
10 86
11 72
12 81
13 67
14 72
15 79
16 66
17 72
18 71
19 72
20 67
21 61
22 --- (no signal)
23 73
24 71
25 --- (no signal)
26 --- (no signal)
27 73
28 --- (no signal)
29 --- (no signal)
30 73

Here are my readings with a D500 and a I bracket , also in San Francisco. With a 211 receiver:

1 NO Signal
2 75
3 76
4 72
5 72
6 85
7 78
8 70
9 83
10 85
11 73
12 84
13 71
14 77
15 80
16 73
17 71
18 76
19 73
20 73
21 70
22 NO Signal
23 76
24 72
25 NO Signal
26 NO Signal
27 78
28 NO Signal
29 76
30 81

Only a few pts. higher in some TPs than Larry's readings. Might as well just go with the D300.

I don't know. This dish was originally installed years ago with legacy hardware that was updated when I had a 921 installed. What is the difference between the two?

I do know that one of the antennas is a DishPro Twin and the other is a Dual. They feed a DP-34. I have a 501 and a 921.

it's been ok tonight, and it's been raning pretty hard (for LA) should've caused a fade... i've seen some pixelization not sure if it's from signal dropping or encoder, but now i'm watching Nothing but trailers and it's been sharp and the rain's been pretty hard and constant...

I've seen rain fade once here in Yucaipa and that was with a major thunderstorm developing almost directly overhead. That was the only time in my 5 years with dish. We didn't get much rain until we were in bed last night and then it was not bad enough to cause any dish problems.

Do you have the d1000? If so, what signal strength do you see for 110 and 119? I'm having one installed on the 29th and am curious as to what to expect. I know that 129 is weak and I will ask that my old d500 be used for 129, but I don't know if I want the second d500 used for 110/119, or if the new d1000 will work good enough. Thanks in advance for any infor you can offer.

129 levels

I am at the very top of Interstate 5, northern WA State....and 129 levels on an 18" dish are 50 to 63 or so depending on the TP.
I plan on putting a 24: dish up for 129...needs a little help here.
I get the same levels on 129 as I het on 61.5.....go figure!!!
Maybe 24" dish for both will do it.
