Single Dish for 129 - Best way to go? (1 Viewer)

I'm looking for advice on my two options. I have a Dish1000 installed and a Dish500 sitting in the shed.

With the current setup, after peaking for hours, the best I can get is: :(

110 - 74pts (on trans 21)

119 - 82pts (on trans 21)

129 - 61pts (on trans 21)

Should I use my extra 500 for 110 & 119 and then the 1000 for 129 only? (LNB on center position)

Or should I peak the 1000 for the best 110-119 and use the 500 for 129? (using "I" adapter)

Anyone compared the two?

Pro's and Con's of each option?

Thanks

For starters, you're using the wrong transponders to peek on:

110, use 11
119, use 11
129, use 14

Your dish set up: I'd go for the latter, unless you're near the east coast. If you are East, you could set the 500 for the 61.5 bird.

Ok, I didn't think it mattered as long as it wasn't a spotbeam.

Then I get:

110 - 82
119 - 85
129 - 62

The only difference is 110 is closer to 119.

just thinking out loud here, but i noticed on a dish 1000 when you are looking at the birds from the rear of the dish the lnb's are from left to right the 129, 119, and then the 110 on the right, even though the birds are lined up in the sky as 110,119, 129 left to right. would it make a difference for the better or for the worse if you were to flip-flop the 129 and 110 lnb so that it is 110, 119 129 left to right?

NOOOO! The dish is angled to reflect the signals back to the proper locations. If the satellites go E-W, the associated LNB's go W-E.

I've never used the dish 1000 for 129, here in superdish land i use a dish 500 with either the Y or I adapter, doesn't matter. signal in central IL is consistantly around 90. I can't believe everyone going on about the low signals on the dish 1000, that's gotta suck!

Well I finally got my "I" adapter and installed my D500 for the 129 bird yesterday. I'm getting a 20 point increase over the D1000.

Reading low 80's now, even on transponder 30. :D

It was well worth the trouble.

Now I'll peak my D1000 again for just the 110 & 119.

Glad to hear it works so well for 129. When the weather clears and I get a chance I'll be doing the same thing.

I wonder if using the dual LNB wye adaptor from the 500 on the 1000 would center the LNB's better and enhance the signal for 110 and 119? At least you wouldn't have to fill the empty 129 position.

I've been thinking the same thing. I wonder if it fits?

I was going to play with it today but it is snowing like crazy.
Guess what? I'm getting a better signal off of 129 than 110 in this storm. :D
