Solution to loud commercials?

I prefer the 30 second skip ahead on the DVR.

BTW- Commercials actually do not have higher volume levels, just higher average loudness. When we do commercials for insertion, the peak volume is adhusted to just below 0 Vu. In most TV programming the dialog is slow deliberate and full of silent pauses. By contrast the 30 second commercial is challenged story telling in 30 seconds and is packed in motormouth Voice talent along with a full underscore of music in most cases. Then we compress the heck out of the sound so the peaks don't exceed what they were before but bring up the quieter parts of the volume to within 6-8 db below paek level. All this produces no higher peak volume on a VU meter but does produce a less bouncy volume as the average has nearly 6 DB of dynamic range. Average speech in the program content is about 45 db dynamic range.
BTW- Rock music has about 5 db of dynamic range while classical music can have about 60- 80 db of range.
