Had a customer come in the store to pay her internet bill the other day and she was complaining about the internet being sluggish. My daughter deep-dived with her and finally figured out what she was complaining about was how a movie would stop, then a commercial would play, then the movie would resume. She actually thought, and probably still does, that we are the ones inserting the commercials. She'll probably end up cancelling because of her misunderstanding of how streaming works. My daughter told her that some streaming apps allow you to pay extra for no commercials....lady looked at her like it was the craziest thing she had ever heard.

Reminds me of an old gal who got C-band from this outfit I started out working with. It was just after scrambling started, and most had heard about the "fix" that got all the scrambled ch's. She had only had the system for like a week, and I was sent over to take care of some issue. She sat there complaining about not being able to watch some of the ch's (a package of basics had been activated on VCII). She would flip through, like, the G1 lineup, and some, like the HBOs, would do a black screen with message "No subscription for this channel". She didn't like that at all and was repeatedly yelling "No perscription! No perscription!". I'm pretty sure the shysters whom I was working with at the time had told her or implied to her that she'd get "everything".

In retrospect maybe it wasn't that great of an idea to put up that "no subscription" message instead of just leaving a black screen. Like a flag to a bull.

Since I had a TV sales person tell me that their TVs could descramble premium channels, I have no doubt that someone did tell her that. I once pointed out to a salesman that he had just told me three incorrect things in a row and his response was: Hey! This is my job, not my hobby! I think a lot of sales people see it in similar ways. Besides, the job category is sales not education.
