Splitter? Help!

For the time being, while I wait out the CBSHD and 61.5 dish, can I just split the signal coming into my house and run one cable to 811 and one cable to my DVR/PVR?

I will only use one receiver at a time, so I should be able to with a quality splitter correct?

I bought a satellite cable splitter from Radio Shack that I use to provide an outlet in two rooms from one LNB on the dish. I just move my receiver back and forth between the two rooms when I need to. I would think you could do the same.
