I'm stiull getting issues with the new software.
Lastnight I went to hook up and couldn't get 85 lock on rtn.It came on when I first turned on the box, then after changing channels,i could no longer get it to come up,even after going into sat set up and double checking everything.
I then put the pansat back in it's place and no problems what so ever.
Some may say it's me,mine, nothin' wrong with it...bla bla.
.They don't like blaming the box.But I've been doing this long enough to think this openbox is a pile that needs tossed.
First it was green tint, now it's crappy software updates.
Is this honestly even a box worth messing with?Seems like a bunch of pirated hardware.
What's your opinion??

my opinion is you get what you pay for.....what can anybody expect from a one hundred dollar receiver?....the openbox is basically the mcdonalds of HD receivers....if you pay 99 cents for a burger, then you get a 99 cent burger....if you want a GOOD burger then you shop elsewhere and pay more money for it....

a good burger is relative.... if i were having to pay 10 bucks for a burger i would just order the steak instead

I think it's the best value available right now. If you think you know of the perfect receiver, put you Openbox up for sale, and buy the perfect box. You'll probably wish you hadn't . :)

Define "new software". That sounds like the issues I had with the June/July versions, which had issues with switches and also seemed to assume that everyone had a universal LNB. But the August versions (I think starting July 31st) fixed all that. (Some of them introduced new problems, like an audio sync bug.)

I have an original Sathawk/Solomend from Sadoun ( an old sponsor) and while it is quirky, it works. The issue you are experiencing sounds like a switching problem. If you aren't using a switch, disregard, obviously. if you are, try a different kind. I have had receivers that just plain won't work well with certain switches.

Louisiana you say? Welcome! Where at? We got SatGuys all over South LA. :D

I know how you feel. I have one that has software from (I think) 08-08-11 that appears to work OK, so far. The other unit I am still in a discussion(fight) with the company it was purchased from on getting it to stop crashing with the software they suggested. They just will not accept the fact it could be a bad box.
I agree it is not the most expensive unit you can buy, but it should still work. I have not yet become sick from a cheap Mickey-Mac burger, but am getting sick from the problems with this one receiver from ********.

RT.

I've had an S9 now for a month or two and for the most part I'm satisfied with it considering what I paid for it. I've also got an AZBox Elite and an Ultra and I use the S9 more than the AZs now. So I'm with the others that stand by the S9s as I don't believe there will ever be a "perfect" FTA receiver. Just too limited a market and the price would be way to high for me. And if the price for the S9 seems to be too much for ya, I remember buying my GI 920 years ago and that was over $600 so I'm not going to complain about this S9 that has more features for less money.

I'm using Openbox S9 110815 with American Satellites
I'm thinking it might be my lnb now.I mean hey--the box works good,it just has a drop out issue-that might not be the box itself.I changed 1 lnb-yes,I'm using a switch-and it fixed my problem on 101.Now for 83.I'm going to change switch first, since it's on the ground, and I have to order a new lnb.
I'm located in Lafayette. It's time for a boudin break!!!
I appreciate "all" the replies

southofi-10, I would guess either the switch or the cable. I had drop out issues on a different receiver about a year ago and it was a loose connection on one end of the cable. I cut that end off and installed a new end - - - no more drop outs.

What type of cable are you using?

I was having same problem with my S10 on 99W with the PR Mux, I would go to a different Sat. and come back and no signal. I reset box still no signal. So I thought what the crap went out check dish and went to bed(it was late)....next morning it was there when I turned on the TV. Well that evening I swapped out receivers and and it wasn't long it was gone again. Long story short it was my switch.

I've had this drop out issue too.. I have a array of lnbf's connected in my setup, connected with multi-switchs and a disqec switches.. While my azbox is fine with it the open box s9 is not.. After awhile, all power is cut of to the LNB than It will come back after a power cycle... I think the power output is going into auto protect mode or something... Anyone with a better theory?

Sorry-looki9ng at 83 rtn.
I'm beginning to think it's my "new" lnb. That's actually when the problem started.I've changed switches and connectors. No change.I changed one of the "new" lnbs and it fixed the problem on that location.I've ordered another lnb for the 83 location.I'm betting that fixes my problem.
Now remember, there is NO problem with a pansat or fortec,so my thinking is,the s9 is picky about the lnbs you use.
My 'new' lnb's are
ESX522 Standard Dual Out Linear 0.2dB
Might be issues with this and the s9---Go figure.
I'd like to repeat-there are NO problems with my set up with other recievers.
We will soon see if the new lnb fixes things.
I'll report back.
BTW-What is the next best receiver in line with the s9---excluding the s10 of course,LOL

for the same price range there is no equal.... another box that does the same things is the manhatten with a lot more bugs tho... the pansat 9200, 9000, 1000 & the new 9500 with their problems.... coolsat 8000 & 8100 (i think these have no blind scan)... then the "kings" the azboxes... im not sure if i listed every reciever but those r the more commonly used boxes
