Woke up to an error code: 0457. "A serious problem has been detected with your hard disk drive". Great. Had 4 programs on there that I hadn't watched yet, and a ton of stuff waiting to record in the timers. Can anyone tell me exactly what the problem is? Called tech support and am getting a new STB in the mail, 3-5 days before it gets here, ugh. Just curious if anyone knows exactly what that error means for a HD problem?

Have you tried a power button reset? Also pull the AC power cord for 10 sec. either may reset your box and clear that HD error message.

Stuff happens, if un-plugging it for a few minutes does not resolve the problem, you will have to wait for the replacement. While its always annoying for a failure to occur, when your dealing with any electronic device, there is always that possibility.

Don't get me wrong. I fully understand the fail rate of electronics, especially hard drives. Just wondering if anyone knew what kind of failure it really meant instead of just "failed".

There are moments that I wish error messages were more descriptive or more easily understood, but programmers sometimes don't want to add code to try and describe all the possible different error messages a device could deliver, or they don't do it because of the limited amount of memory in a device, so they go simple and they say "xyz" has failed without any great description of why, other than the obvious that your device no longer works..

At least its a warranty issue and other than the wait to get the replacement, and hoping the next one is flawless, patience is the buzzword...

Ahh yes, patience. At least playing poker has taught me something :-) Oh well, nothing I can do but wait for the new box to get here sometime next week. I had somehting else to say on this issue, but forgot already. Old age, something else that patience brought with it.
