Switches - only Dish?

Only the D* LNBs are the same as E* legacy except for the shape of the base. The switches are incompatible except that E* receivers can use a standard multi-switch though few E* customers with more than one receiver can get by with just one satellite.
Q. Am I stuck using only Dish-branded switches?
A. There are other brands, but maybe not for all situations. Here are a couple of links for one company that has a DP34 equivalent that also a UHF/VHF/Cable input.

Q. Can Dish IRDs control regular FTA switches?
A. If I remember right, DishPro and DishPro Plus receivers are DiSEqC compatible, so they should be able to use a DiSEqC switch. However, it could get a little more complicated than that. Both also uses a 22KHz tone to signal the LNBF for extended range and I suspect this 22KHz tone would interferre with a 0/22KHz switch. Also the DishPro Plus can send two sigals down a single line and then uses a separator to separate it for a dual tuner receiver.
Q. Has anyone tried?
A. When I first hooked up a couple of receivers at different locations, the Dish Advanced Technical Support tech was not aware that the DP34 and DPP44 needed extended conductors to function, so I spent 3 or 4 weeks trying to trouble shoot the 2 systems. In doing so, I did use a DiSEqC 4x1 on a couple of receivers. In fact, on a dual tuner receiver, I used 4 splitters and 2 DiSEqC switches so that I could feed both tuners. I did not keep this setup very long, so I will not swear to you that I truely had 100 % of the functions, but believe I did.
Anyway, the above are some options, but it may be more trouble than it's worth; and if you have a DishPro Plus receiver, I think I would go with DishPro Plus or DishPro switches or an equivalent that works.
There is a lot of FTA stuff out there that may work, but you need to evaluate your whole setup first if you plan to experiment with it.
Likewise, Dish has a lot of equipment, such as on the LNBF's they have Legacy, DishPro, and DishPro Plus, and similar on the receivers.
