Hello All,

Hope everyone is doing well....

I am currently a Dish subscriber and had the phone in hand ready to make the jump to Direct.

The one thing holding me back right now is that Direct's Sat's do not support single line - duel feed. I have 2 rev's in my house right now with Dish and only need one cable for the duel tuners.

Does anyone know when Direct is going to support SWM "Single Wire Mode"?

The way my insulation is done in the house makes it very difficult to run additional cable to the rooms I would need the extra cable, I am lucky that my media room has two, buy my master bedroom does not.

- On another note: If Direct comes out and installs, can they use the mounting location and hardware from my Dish setup? I really do not want to have additional drill holes in the side of my house?

Thanks,
David

DirecTV does support single wire mode with the new SWM8 (Single Wire Multiswitch) which works nicely if you have a newer model receiver.

However, the SWM8 is not available from DirecTV for a single residence, unless you happen to be in one of the test markets for this new unit.

You can however buy one from dealer and install it yourself. The setup (SWM8 + PI) will set back about $275 - $300

The SWM 8 (which is around $300) is being targeted mostly for multiple dwelling installs (apartment type buildings).

DirecTV is working on a new LNB that has the SWM built in, which they stated plans to have released later this year.

See this thread for a little more info:

Unfortunately, to answer your question, SWM is not a standard install technique yet.

They'll locate the behemoth dish wherever necessary to give you service. It may end up atop a pole in your yard if that's what it takes to see all five satellites.

Know that the masts are not compatible and there will be at least four wires entering the house.

Not as bad as having to install two dish's in order to get new HD locals or a good enough signal from the crippled bird at 129.

Thanks for the degrading post Harshness.....

Arcuro,
The dish mentioned 5 lnb set up is approx 24 x 29, much smaller than DISH networks Super dish, but still larger than D*'s previous dishes.

Soon you will no longer require a second dish for the locals in many locations as the programming form the 72 sat location will be moved to the new sats.
There will be a smaller dish coming out once this transaction takes place.

Some D* installations demand two dishes too. This is particularly true of those with International service where an even larger dish must be installed. Pending getting everyone set up with behemoth dishes for their SD locals, there's still a handful of markets on wing slots.
