It would be a good transition, lower phone rate with a loan payment. That way if you kept your phone longer you could save money on your phone plan.

It would however hit the hardware manufacturers hard. If you could save $20/month by not upgrading people would stretch out the upgrade cycle. Watch out Apple and Samsung!

When this first came out, about the end of last year, I pointed out that this is how most of the world operates, with no phone subsidies and no contracts.

It's be fine with this.

Nothing they are doing is fixing their biggest problem, coverage. In an area they have a good signal they can be better priced than ATT or Verizon. But stray from that area and it's only 911 service way too often. But with their new no contract plan, and not having subsidized phones, along with throttling, I would not jump to any conclusion they are better. Perhaps if you keep your phone much longer than people tend to now.
