Nothing about "Dishonline.com"?

I sure wish there were more HD PPV choices than there are today.

A mention that something is coming soon would have been nice, or is that not a "Tech Question"?

"All new HD channels will be launched in Mpeg4 and some in new orbital slots."

So are we going to get a free dish upgrade for those?

"Hd Mapdown (9000 # mapped down to the SD #"

At least it looks on the graphics like they're going to still show both channels in the guide. I was worried that they were going to not show the SD channel at all and force us to waste valuable drive space (that they still aren't letting us expand for no apparent reason) on stretch-o-vision.

This was all that was covered in the Tech Chat?

A few minor new software features?

An announcement of an HD channel that is already on?

An explanation of how movies work?

The Tech Chats used to provide lots of interesting information.

Honestly, it was a very good tech forum. They answered a ton of emails and phone calls. Sure most of which wasn't too new to us regulars, but a very good show otherwise. Seams like nearly 90% of the questions have to do with HD now. No secret what folks are interested in. I remember when getting an HD question on the air was a big deal.

Looks like a significant 622 software release is coming soon.

The biggest slip was that we would be able to program our 622's via the internet soon. I'm guessing that would be part of when DishOnline is launched and not just some webportal on dish's website.

Sweet! This will be a SW update that I actually look forward to. Have always (well, at least for the last year) wanted to have the HD channels located next to the SD channels in the EPG.

I'm assuming the PIP feature mentioned will be the side-by-side PIP? Will also like having this....

THey only answered one phone call as one guy got through and yelled at them for promising these new features in December and now they are promising the same features by March.

After that they didn't take anymore calls, the rest were emails.

hmmm... I don't like the idea of the HD stations next to the SD counterparts. I like cruising HD content in the 9000s. I hope they keep the number mapping so that they are available in both places.

Program my 622 over the web?!!??! SIGN ME UP! I must of missed that! Can Scott or anyone confirm that this will be a part of the DishOnline feature? Isn't it supposed to be available on the 15th of this month? I wonder what kind of cost would be attached to this if true.

The biggest thing I remember is they plan on charging an "enabling fee" for the external hard drive. They will only support drives under 1TB for now.

From what I could tell they would offer it both ways. Just as they do now with locals.

You can also choose to NOT map down the HD channels to their SD counterparts. It is an option in the menus. If you DO choose to map them down, then they are right next to the SD (not on top of it as some had feared).

The HD and SD recording priority was also a nice feature to help keep recordings from hogging the hard drive if you don't care whether they are in HD or SD.

Where is native resolution passthrough?

There was actually a lot of stuff covered in this chat (Q & A)...

Much thanks for the EKB summary... otherwise this thread's "recap" doesn't contain much more than some screen shotc...

woah dd 5.1 over hdmi in the new software, that's kind of big isn't it!

WTF with the external storage... by summer now, business decisions... ability to use off the shelf USB drive is great. They'd better hurry it up if they are tring as hard as they can to push/force us to view/record HD content over SD. If we followed E* logic with our current hardware you'd be out of space in a few days of recording HD... HURRY UP E*
