The Day The Music Died

When XM had Top Tracks and Big Tracks as their two main classic rock stations with thousands of songs on their play list, nothing else compared. After the merger they took on Sirius's lame Classic Vinyl and Classic Rewind. Now the same few hundred songs are played over and over each day. Even Boneyard's music library decreased drastically.

Don't get me started on how much lamer MLB Homeplate has become since the merger.

Aren't most of the music stations now, the old Sirius stations?

Another thing to note. When I XM as XM only, I literally never lost the signal in my car, even while going through a tunnel or a parking structure. My parents always had Sirius and they would lose a signal simply going under a pedestrian overpass bridge. It seems like since the merger, my reception is horrible. I lose a signal just stopped next to a big rig.

They had way better selection of music and much less repeats than now. the reception seems the same to me.

Music died the day RAP was classified as music!
Which has nothing to do with the topic at hand, but okay, I'll get off your lawn!

Meanwhile, XM lost me when when they dumped Music Lab and Luna, but I had considered coming back before X-Country and Beyond Jazz were gutted, and eventually eliminated from the lineup. I find all of that and more on Slacker, now.

Everytime I call to cancel, they offer me something worth staying for. The first few times it was $77/year. The last time I called, it was $20 for 5 months. It would be nice if they came up with a pricing program that works for them and keeps the consumer happy. I will never pay them the full price of 2 radio service.

The latest ding I noticed is the removal of Casey Kasem's AT40 on the 80's channel. Instead, they do their own "countdown" with the dry personalties of the VJs from MTV.

I can't tell you how this upsets me. This was my favorite program on XM. The new VJ version just is not as good. The AT40 shows were the real feelings from the times since they were the real shows that aired in that time period.

I'd actually prefer to have the AT40 completely eliminated. This is more of a selfish, personal preference, but to me all it is is taking a station that has 10 years worth of songs and essentially reducing it to 1 - 2 years for a period of time with what I consider to be meaningless dribble in between each song. I suppose for nostalgia value it serves a purpose, but for me it's just a reduced play list.

You would think after the merger that the selection would increase due to combined resources, but instead the opposite happened.

For me its an extended playlist. Most of the songs played on AT40 are NOT played on the 70's or 80's channels regularly.

So many times listening to Casey I am like, oh my god I havent heard that song in YEARS.

Satellite Radio just keeps cutting back costs so much that it just isn't that interesting to listen to anymore. They keep focusing mostly on sports and these goofy talk channels like the new Oprah channel. Since the merger, I have lost so much interest in sat radio as programs I used to love have been eliminated. When I contact them about it, I get the same response. Cutting back cost. They are cutting back on me as a subscriber and I am very near to canceling.
