Well since it was nominated for 6 Golden globes I made the trip today to Oklahoma City to see the film. It is still in somewhat limited release (700 theaters).

Wow, what a good film. It is not the typical film since it comes from the BBC, not Hollywood.

I went to the early matinée, and it was full (during a week day)!

The film is a reenactment of history, the story of Prince Albert (Queen Elizabeth II's father) who later became King George VI. He had a bad stutter that he goes to speech therapy. It is the story of him and his speech therapist.

It is R rated because of one scene where he curses during his therapy.

The dialog is fast and witty, but you really have to be a fan of British history to really appreciate the film.

I can see why it is a top contender for the Oscar, it will be interesting to see how many it is nominated for and what it wins. It is easily the best picture I have seen this year.

Agree. Should be top contender for acting (Colin Firth, Geoffrey Rush, Carter), directing (Tom Hooper), screenplay (David Seidler) honors. A grown-up picture for grown-up brains.
