Went and saw it on a whim with my nephews, not bad. Was entertaining and moved along at a nice pace.
Like John Carter, Disney and the critics had written this off before it even had a chance. Looks like Disney is going to write off $200 million on it.

The really mess up some of these flicks chances. Its like Gangster Squad. Ended up being a great movie but you never would have known it...
It was not a bad movie if you turned off your brain and enjoyed it. No it was not an intellectual factual recounting of the old west. They messed up in so many areas like basic geography it is not funny. But, if you just take it as a work of fiction set in a fictitious land it is a fun movie to watch.
What, you mean to tell me the Lone Ranger didn't actually exist and set justice straight in the old west with his trusty steed Silver and faithful companion Tonto.
People try to over think movies too much instead of going in and just enjoying the story telling. Unless it's being advertised as a factual account, I don't know why people go in thinking it is going to be period correct. Most movies take a liberal license to the genre and at least stay in the general era of the movie. I'm sure someone is going to pop up online in a review complaining the guns and trains used weren't made until 20 yrs after the time setting of the movie.
Well it was things like putting monument valley in TX... The movie should have been set in Utah, it would have made a lot more sense since that is where they shot it. But, they wanted him to be a TX ranger, so they had to come up with a way for that to happen by setting it in TX.
Promontory, UT was where they connected the rails, and they used scenery from UT, but Comanche territory and the TX rangers were not around there, so they made it TX. I guess being from the Western Side of TX and knowing what the scenery is supposed to look like, and seeing the Native American museums and artifacts (including Comanche) from around here tainted my view.

Actually I know they shot in NM afaik ... it was all over the "local" news when they were filming.
