I didn't get to the second episode until last night and I was again underwhelmed. The whole porn addiction story line was too much of the episode. It could have been OK if it was minor, but it felt like the primary story while the planet being consumed by the sun was secondary (which in my opinion should have been the primary story). Here's to hoping that the "new" episodes are better, but I have my doubts. I'm in for at least one more week for sure, but I hope it is better.

I liked the first episode of the season. Was not a fan of the second episode at all.

Just watched episode two, more like those and I'll loose interest.

Third episode of this season and it finally looks like the first seasons programming. I don't like losing Alara but at least the quality of the show improved.

Interesting that two actors who played doctors on different Startrek series ended up in this episode..

Alara was the eye candy of the show. Hopefully she comes back.

Agree 100%. First episode in Season 2 that actually reminded me of the quality of the stories we saw in Season 1. I will admit though, I was worried they'd actually go so far as to cut Alara's sister's finger off there, but that wasn't the case... I think we got more than enough of that blood and gore thanks to that Syfy failure Nightflyers…

Personally, I'll watch any episode that combines Voyager's Doctor with Dr. Phlox. I do wonder why they decided to remove Alara from the main cast though. Was Halston Sage busy filming other projects, or perhaps she just didn't want to continue on with the show?

I think next week's episode will be a good one, it's action-based with a space battle against the Krill again. When the stories take a more serious tone, that's when I find they shine. They don't have to be as dark and dystopian as most modern day sci-fi series *coughdiscoverycough*, but if it's just a filler episode with childish gags and potty humor, the show falls flat and loses all of its integrity. I mean, he can do whatever he wants, it's his show, but if he wants it to stay on the air, he'd better take it seriously instead of alternating each week between the "Family Guy in space" hour, and teaching people how to accept others' beliefs and religions.

My first thought when the doctor was discussing Alara's issues with not having enough gravity was "well, obviously, the Orville has AG, they just need to set up her crew quarters with her planet's gravity." Something they should have thought of and with other Silerans (sp?) serving on other Union ships.

Yeah, I never figured out why they didn't have her quarters setup that way and/or a gym.

The woman who played Alara’s Sister was the same woman who played Caroline on Vampire Diaries . I found that out the other day on google news. My wife and I both kept saying that the sister looked familiar but the makeup job they did on her hid her identity.

Can't say I'm surprised that Patrick Warburton showed up, but will it be a permanent assignment?

I don't think so... apparently Jessica Szohr was cast as a new series regular for the second season, so I'm thinking maybe she's replacing Sage as the "permanent" security officer.

Totally agree with you guys. This was the first episode of the year that I enjoyed. Felt very much like last season.

Not feeling it. First two episodes were bad but the Alara episode was only half good and felt a little preachy at times. Last season was mildly entertaining but this better get good quick.

She is involved in some other projects and maybe when her relationship with MacFarlane fizzled it got awkward. Who knows.

Didn't know she was dating him. Makes more sense now.

I'm calling it now. S2, E4 "Nothing Left on Earth Excepting Fishes" is the best episode we will get out of all 14 this season.

Including all the episodes from Season 1 as well, this was the first time in the whole series that we got through an entire episode with ZERO juvenile humor, ZERO profanity, and a great story that was both appropriate with dramatic elements, and also combined great visual effects in a space battle.

One thing in particular piqued my interest about this episode though. The Krill woman Teleya, who was posing as a human known as Janel "Tyler"... Well, in Star Trek Discovery, one might remember a certain Klingon who was masquerading as a human known as Ash "Tyler". Was this just coincidence? Or, just like with several other noted similarities during Season 1 of The Orville, was she intentionally named as such by Macfarlane as a way to say to CBS and Discovery, "See, this is what you did for your story, but we did it better"?

This should have been the Season 2 Premiere. I highly doubt any of the remaining 10 episodes will top this one, but I welcome Seth to prove me wrong.
