Tip for June 12

When having difficulties setting up a dish, most people blame the LNB as not working and 99% of the time it is NOT the LNB

Diseqc 1.2 allows you to move the motor and store a satellite. USALS (Disec 1.3) automatically goes to a satellite (after you put your latitude & longitude in).

DVB Boxes cannot pick up Digicipher II channels

There are some channels that show on Lyngsat and they say "Digicipher II". DVB boxes (the ones we use) cannot pick those up.

Tip for June 15

If you suddenly lose signal, check all coax connections. A bad connection can make the difference

Tip for June 16

Always make sure your mast is plumb & level. If adding a motor & dish, make sure to recheck once they are installed

just because its plumb when you moun the mast, it may not be once you add ther weight of the motor & dish

Tip for June 19

When using the Invacom Quad, you DO NOT need to hook all 4 outputs into a 4x1 switch for one reciever. You only need one "L" and one "C" output.

Tip for June 20

Most DVB boxes cannot view HD or 4:2:2 feeds. Most PC cards can view these feeds

There is a DVB receiver called Quali-TV 1080 that does do 4:2:2 but it runs about 700 dollars.

To get optimum signal, you may have to adjust the LNB by pushing the LNB in the holder towards the dish

Normally you should put the LNB as far back in the holder, but some signals you may have to push it in towards the dish. I had to do this with my C-band dish :)

Tip for June 22...real simple one

Dont ask us how to steal Dish Network or Bell ExpressVu with your FTA box. You won't get any help here

Tip for June 23

When looking at Lyngsat, the left column has the frequency. If it is 4 digits, then it is C-band (need a 6 foot or larger dish). 5 digit frequencies are KU band

If you are having issues with a FTA channel, DO NOT E-mail/Call the company. This is how items get scrambled

There are a few exceptions to this. If the company posts the satellite coordinates on their website (like some ethnic channels and religious). But remember, we are not the companies intended targets for channels/backhauls. If you see a phone number on a backhaul, DO NOT call it. This is how stuff gets scrambled :)

Tip for June 27

If you are looking at Lyngsat, always check the "beam" to make sure the satellite actually broadcasts to that area

On the right hand side of Lyngsat, there will be a beam. It may say North America, Europe, etc. Make sure it beams to the US:)

Tip for June 28

When entering polarity info for a circular LNB, just remember "RV"
Right equals Vertical
Left equals Horizontal

Tip for June 29

When aiming a dish, move the dish in SMALL increments (1/8" at a time) and wait 5 seconds for the receiver to acknowedge the movement before continuing

Since KU is lower powered, the box has to have time to react to movement

Tip for June 30

If you are thinking about getting FTA, please do some reading first. FTA is not for everyone. Once you get your equipment, please do some reading to see how to install the system

FTA is not for everyone and you do need some patience. If you are having install issues, please read some of the threads. Alot of the answers are already there :)

No tips for the week of July 4...

Tip for Nov 14th

If you want to get from one end of the arc to the other faster, select a Horizontal transponder. The reciever will send 18 volts to the motor versus 13 volts for Vertical
