Sorry I did a search and wasn't able to find anything specific to my needs so if I missed a post that said exactly what I needed I'm sorry.

Here is my problem.

My apartment management group is getting anal about mine and other dishes on our balconies sticking off the side.

I have to move mine back about a foot to make sure I have no amount of my dish hanging over the railing.

I'm in the Chicago DMA and use 110/119/129 for my sats.
What transponders should I use on each sat to peak my tuning?

Thank you

I've read that using 19 & 21 are a good choice for most/all satellites.

If your balcony is a private use area, the manager is violating the law by intruding into your privacy.

The FCC over the air rules allow you to have a satellite antenna in your private use area with virtually no restrictions.

FCC Fact Sheet on Placement of Antennas

The OP explained that the dishes were hanging outside of the private balcony, like in open space, although the pedestals were entirely inside the private area. The Mgr. can ask, and they did, the tenants to pull them back so the dishes are entirely in the private space. OTARD doesn't mean a thing here.

Sorry Jim but I do have to move it.

Q: Does the rule apply to condominiums or apartment buildings if the antenna is installed so that it hangs over or protrudes beyond the balcony railing or patio wall?
A: No. The rule does not prohibit restrictions on antennas installed beyond the balcony or patio of a condominium or apartment unit if such installation is in, on, or over a common area. An antenna that extends out beyond the balcony or patio is usually considered to be in a common area that is not within the scope of the rule. Therefore, the rule does not apply to a condominium or rental apartment unit unless the antenna is installed wholly within the exclusive use area, such as the balcony or patio.

Thanks Looks like I have a little tuning to do.

110 19=52 21=62
119 19=74 21=77
129 19=53 21=61

119 looks great but 110 and 129 could do better.

Looks like this is the best I can do on these TP's

110 19=55 21=66
119 19=73 21=75
129 19=53 21=62

129 probably will not get any better than that. 110 might though.

Before I moved it 129 was in the high 50's low 60's. My lowest reading was 57. I could get that back but if I do I lose on my 110.

I have a concrete wall blocking my 110 reception because I moved it back, that was the reason I had it out over the edge to begin with.

I don't think these look so bad. It really is, how does the picture hold up? The new 100 point scale measures signal quality, not signal strength.

Most think the dish need to be above the railing to get the signals when in fact you can pull the dish back and make the top part of the LNB even with the porch railing and still get perfect signals,This normally makes the dish look much better especially if your up a few floors from ground level.

True but not accurate. The Antenna MUST be located ENTIRELY within the exclusive space occupied by the tenant.
While I agree that apartment mgments are beiong overly picky about parts of a Dish protruding beyond that imaginary line beyond the eadge of a patio or balcony, the apt mgment is within it's rights to enforce to the letter of the regulation.

for sats 100 and 119 use Tp's 14,15, 16 and 21
for sat 129 use tp's 17 and 18.
These are the ones on the Installer Martix that the Quality Assurance inspectors use to grade installer performance.

Looks like I have some work to do.

110 14=61 15=61 16=62 21=64
119 14=61 15=70 16=75 21=74
129 17=50 18=53

We had a lot of sats lost Friday night but it wasn't a normal rain storm. 2"/hr is way too heavy to test signal strength.:D

After tuning again.

110 14=61 15=63 16=62 21=66
119 14=61 15=76 16=74 21=79
129 17=53 18=53

Guess I'll stick with this for a while.

Not bad....
I have a D-500 (20") dish...Here's my sigs.
Sat 119.......Tp 14, 79;TP 15 87; TP 16, 82; TP 21 82
Sat 110.......Tp 14, 80; TP15 75; TP 16 75; TP 21 77
Something to shoot for when you get the time...
BTW for 1000.2 antennas, due to the larger reflector, sigs should be a bit higher
All 110's should be in the low to mid 80's
All 119's should be within that same range.
129's should be in the low to mid 60's

Those numbers must be with a completely clear line of site.

On my 1000.2 I'm reading:

110 TP 14: 72
" " 15: 73
" " 16: 74
" " 21: 75

119 TP 14: 70
" " 15: 80
" " 16: 81
" " 21: 84

129 TP 17: 59
" " 18: 60

Looking through some trees, but not bad considering!
