Interesting thing happened this morning…

I was attempting to call Dish and dialed 888-333-DISH. The automated voice message said "Thanks you for calling America’s premier satellite company" and I was transferred to a CSR. Sounds normal so far right…. Turns out I had called Direct TV. They tried to get me to switch but I declined.

The actual number for dish is 800-333-DISH.

Those tricky tricky Direct TV guys.

That number has been there for a long time now. Dish's number has always been 1-800-333-DISH.

...and when the 888 toll-free prefix became available, someone took advantage by getting 888-333-DISH and getting calls from those who misdialed.

Similar to people registering misspellings of popular domain names (yahii.com etc) and capitalizing on the traffic.
