TSreader and VLC

I am experimenting with these 2 programs and I have a couple of questions :-

When I first used TSreader and locked a channel I saw a little thumbnail picture. Now I no longer see the thumbnail even though the channel locks.I have obviously inadvertently changed a setting !! Which setting ?

yesterday I used TSreader to record to the harddrive. It has recorded a large file with an extension bin.
VLC will not play this file . What more should I do ?

Look under "Settings" "Thumbnail Thread" and make sure "Disabled" is not selected.

If you select "Record Pids" you will get a bin file. Select "Record Program" and you will get a mpg file.

I havent tested, but if you are going to record pids, make sure you select

PAT 0x00
PMT, PCR, apid, and vpid

else vlc wont play them.
