It's amateur hour. Sorry if this has been addressed numerous times. I searched the forum and found some info, but nothing has worked for my problem so far

Set up:

Dish 500
New DishPro twin LNBF
Two new RG-6 3GHz ---> Sat in 1 and Sat in 2
New 522 receiver
1 TV only

Problem

Check switch shows:

Sat 1

Port: 1 2
Sat: 119 110
Trans: OK OK
Device: Twin Twin
Status: Reception Verified
Switch: DP Twin

Sat 2

Port: 1 2
Sat: 119 110
Trans: X X
Device: Twin Twin
Status: Reception Error
Switch: DP Twin

Point Dish results:

Tuner 1 signal strength

119 = 60-90+ (locked with correct sat named)
110 = 60-90+ (locked with correct sat named)

Tuner 2 signal strength (all transponders)

119 = 12 at very best (usually 0)
110 = 0

What I’ve done:

RTFM
Verified all connections
Check switch with cables out, with receiver unplugged/plugged, and cables back in
Realigned dish (using Tuner 1 signal strength)
Swapped cables to Sat 1 & 2 in
Hard reboot
Other things I can’t remember right now

I can get all my channels just fine using Tuner 1. But since the receiver defaults to Tuner 2, I have to change it back to Tuner 1 every time I turn on the receiver.

Any help is appreciated :up I keep thinking all that's left is operator error

What happened when you swapped the cables between Sat 1 & 2 in? If tuner 1 still shows a good connection, and tuner 2 shows no connection, then it's very likely (like 99.9%) a bad receiver (the other 0.1 % is weird stuff like marginal cables that just happen to look like tuner 2 is bad--not likely, but stuff like this does happen on occasion).

Ok, just to make sure, I swapped them again. I first cleared the matrix with a cables out check switch, then another check switch with the cables swapped . . . same result - Reception Error on Sat 2.

Interesting, because this is a new receiver from Dish that replaced my old 522 (drive failure)

Not surprising because it is a refurbished receiver, 522s haven't been made in 4-5 years the 625 replaced them.

Ahhhh - so it isn't new. looks like I'll be making a call to get this one replaced if I can't figure out any other reason for the reception error

Thanks for the info.

Thanks for the help guys.

Another question if I may:

When aligning the dish - do I need to use Tuner 2 or Tuner 1 in the Point Dish screen, or does it matter?
