I just had a very unpleasant experience dealing with Dish ...
I just moved to the Boston, MA area. Got myself a brand new HDTV and have been shopping around for the best HDTV package I could get... and then Dish Network's website shows me their new TurboHD packages ... SWEET ! This is exactly what I was looking for!
So, from their website, I order TurboHD Bronze with locals and HD-DVR. They give me an installation date of 8/14 between 8-12AM.
They even called me twice in the 2 days before the installation to remind me of my appointment, and on the day of the installation, called me to let me know the technician was on his way ... great, right ?
Not so ....
As soon as the tech showed up, I could tell something was wrong ...
His first words were "We don't have the satellite dish you need to get the TurboHD package, in fact, we're not supposed to install those until 9/15" ...
He didn't even have the 722 receiver with him, just a 612 ...
He said he might be able to hook me up with a temporary antennae, from which I might be able to get a few (2-3) channels while waiting for the equipment for a month ... or more, because he couldn't guarantee they'd even have the equipment by then ...
That quickly got me on the phone with Dish customer service rep, who was less than understanding of the situation ... in her words "We just send the work orders, we can't verify if the local technicians have the equipment" ...
The 'account specialist' I then got transfered to was just slightly more helpful ... she reiterated that it wasn't their fault for not knowing it wasn't available yet in my area ... (of course, nobody is responsible anymore these days ...). Gee !! it's not like I went through a 3rd-party to order anything ! I went through Dish's own website!!
That account specialist said I cold have a different dish installed, and get the america's top 100 + HD + DVR + locals, but I'd have to pay $49.99/month instead of the $34.99/month I was signed up for (TurboHD Bronze + locals + HD-DVR) in the meantime until the equipment became available, and schedule another installation then ... (which she couldn't even guarantee would be free) ... Turns out the tech didn't even have the equipment for that with him ...
I asked to pay what I signed up for ($34.99), no more, if they could get the equipment today and set me up for that alternate package until they figured out their stuff and got the right equipment, and then installed the correct setup for free ... nope .. nada ... zip ...
I told them I'd just cancel the order and call DirecTV or Comcast instead and see what they have to offer ... she was quick to point out that they would be more expensive than Dish ... That would only be true if Dish was able to offer me any kind of decent service!!
In the end, they would not even trying ANYHTING to keep me on as a Dish customer ...
now, all I have is a nice black screen with nothing to watch ...
