I don't get the point of this at all.

An IR to UHF converter, yes. That would let me use some kind of universal remote.

UHF to IR converter lets me use my UHF remote as long as I'm in the same room as the receiver. Which it does now.

Universal remotes don't typically work with the UHF signal of Dish, so you need to be able to do IR. I'm am looking forward to it so I can control the TV2 output with my Slingbox, which I currently am unable to do.
