Is it possible for a tech to refuse or pass an install service call for a particular customer at Dish Network or DIRECTV?

Hello Gogodish. Interesting question. This would usually be from a personal safety issue. I know of stories of techs not going under someone's home due to rodents or fire ants in the crawl space. Lose dogs in the yard can be an issue as even the friendliest dog can still bite. Several other things come to mind, but I hope you've got the idea.

It is possible for anyone to refuse to do any job. It is of course also possible for the employer to decide to reprimand or fire the problem employee.

Read today some guy had a DirecTV installer refuse to install DirecTV because he had a Ham Radio antenna on his property and is a Ham Radio operator, the tech said that he wasn't permitted to install Satellite TV service because his Ham Radio would interfere with the TV service. Which is really a bunch of nonsense.

Exactly. Techs blow off jobs all the time.

Like Claude said, they can make up any reason on the spot, so yes. But they are normally highly motivated financially (whether employee or contractor) to complete each job.

So when it does happen, the installer must have other more powerful (to them) motivations that overcome that incentive to complete the install. Could be anything under the sun. Death in family. Burnt out from 2 weeks non stop work. Missing favorite TV show. Dislikes customer. You name it.

Around here, the techs have to call in to base before refusing a job so they can be APPROVED to refuse the job. In fact, the techs have to call in for quite a few things.
