Upgrade to HD receiver from CativeWorks 800

Hello,

I have CaptiveWorks 800, I was wondering if I get a HD receiver (PanSat 9200HD, OpenBox S9 HD or etc) will I get more channel and better picture quality, I reside in Los Angeles.

Well, you can certainly get more channels on an HD receiver than an SD receiver, and when you find an HD channel, it looks a lot better on an HDTV than most SD channels. Whether you SHOULD get one depends , in part, on whether you have both Ku band and C-band dishes available, so you can make the most of the system. Personally, when I had JUST two Ku band dishes available to me, I still loved having the HD receiver, for the few HD feeds I could find, as well as it's inherent ability to decode AC-3 audio. Your mileage may vary...
[edit] And I do heartily recommend the Openbox S9 group of receivers.

What about the iLink 9500 HD Receivers, are those any good when compared to the Openbox S9 and Azbox?

We have a long thread on this receiver, http://www.satelliteguys.us/free-air-fta-discussion/232484-i-link-9500-hd.html . I think basically we think it's a "hacker box" which might be interesting to try out if you can get it cheap enough. It doesn't decode 4:2:2 video, which is the main reason to have an Azbox, and the Openbox S9 is so competent and so cheap , that a retail priced I-9500 is not very tempting.

from my research the ilink 9500 is nothing but a hacker box....it does not even do dvb-s2 and it does not even blind scan....totally useless for FTA....dont waste your money....you are much better off with an openbox hd....it does alot more and its cheaper too....
