This is a map of the Young Broadcasting locals attached. Looks like they dropped all the Young stations.

Also attached is some screen captures from the 11pm news for WLNS last night. I kinda got a kick out of them explaining why they'll be off the Dish air soon.

"...considerably less than the amount paid to less popular satellite ... networks." WHAT satellite network would that be? Anyone? Anyone?

Bueller?

I say give em the 30 cents per subscriber.. but they pay for the uplink station.. the fiber runs.. the satellite.. and the maintenance of all of it.. I guess that comes out to 80 cents per subscriber.. they owe 50 cents.. pay up.. :)

Liars, damn liars, and statisticians. A penny a day is too much for a local station giving out free signal, when you multiply it out.

Yeah...i dont get it. The local channels are free to anybody who has an antenna...It seems like the local channels would let providers carry them for free because more viewers = more $$$ in ads.

Dish has their limit as to what they are going to pay for a network station after all their costs to getting it up onto the satellite.

That's it entirely. More viewers = more ad revenue.

In any given local TV broadcast market you'll have a pretty significant number of people who can't receive a particular local TV channel very well at all over the air, or they just can't receive the signal at all period. Viewers often have to resort to cable or satellite in order to get the local TV station with a clear signal or any signal at all. If they don't get the channels that way they just won't be watching those channels at all. Lower viewer ratings.

I'd like to know how Young Broadcasting is computing that "1¢ per day" rate. Is that 1¢ for every Dish Network customer nationwide, or just 1¢ per day from E* subscribers in a local TV station's viewing market? I have a nasty feeling it's the former rather than the latter.

I'd really be interested in hearing a story about what the companies that pay for commercials on those stations have to say about this. i know if i ran a company and i bought ad space on their station, i would want that spot to be seen by as many viewers as possible.

If the DBS providers (including DISH) are prohibited from providing distant network signals to their customers in order to protect the ad revenues of local stations, why are the local stations allowed to blackmail the DBS providers with excessive carriage fee demands? Since the local stations are allowed to charge for their signal and negotiate the fee, then the DBS providers should be allowed to offer alternative local signals if acceptable contract terms cannot be reached. You shouldn't be allowed to have your cake and eat it too.

Dish doesn't give me their HD channel, couldn't care less. I get the HD channel OTA.

Dish gets $5 per months for five stations. That is $1 per month for each network and in many areas have to carry many more station for that same $5. Out of that dollar the station want $.30 per month for doing nothing. Dish has the uplink cost, the sat cost and etc. Why should a station get $.30 for contributing nothing.

Jason Crandall:

Ahhh, those pictures are too big. Can you resize them to 800x600 Firefox? The first one is OK.
